Headsets.com Protects Mission Critical Data

Headsets.com, a leading online retailer of "everything headsets" has built an impressive enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) solution in FileMaker Pro.  Given the mission-critical nature of this system, the potential of even an hour's worth of lost data or downtime in the event of a crash is unacceptable. 

Problem

While Headsets.com takes advantage of FileMaker Server's automated backup facilities, even an aggressive full backup schedule can not ensure zero data loss.  And if a crash did occur, there would still be downtime while best backup was located and installed and the server brought back online.

Solution

To solve both the need for constant backup and enable zero-downtime access to its database, the company set up a secondary FileMaker Server and used SyncDeK to continually collect changes from primary server and replicate them to the secondary server. At a moment's notice, users can be routed to the secondary server. Because SyncDeK provides bi-directional data replication, the moment users begin working on the secondary server, changes on that server begin to be collected and shipped to SyncDeK Server, so that when the primary server is brought back online, the changes made on the secondary server will automatically be updated to the primary. Even if users end up being connected to each machine simultaneously, both servers will be kept in sync without fear of data loss because SyncDeK provides field-level conflict detection and resolution.
